There are two ways to distill a distillation: rectification and distillation. Rectification is a more complex process. As a result, all impurities, aromas and flavors are removed from the raw alcohol. This is how you get the purest alcohol.
But it is difficult to produce it at home. And one does not want to drink 96-degree alcohol without any flavor. That is why in Belarus they traditionally produced and produce moonshine by a simpler method - distillation.
That's why it is Samogon, that it is usually prepared in an artisanal way. Not all folk craftsmen know how to make a product without harmful impurities - methanol, acetone, syrupy oils. But wheat, rye or even fruit distillate has notes of the original raw material in the flavor. It simply tastes better than pure alcohol.
