Balsams

Balsam is an alcoholic drink made from herbs, roots, berries, seeds infused with alcohol. Unlike bitter tinctures, it contains a lot of sugar, so its taste is tart and sweet. The balm was invented as a universal remedy for many diseases, but it turned out to be so delicious that it quickly passed into the category of alcoholic beverages. Gourmets are happy to use it just like that, "for prevention".

TYPE, COMPOSITION AND PROPERTIES

For the production of traditional Belarusian balms on alcohol, as a rule, they use:

  • dried fruits of rowan, hawthorn, rosehip;
  • ginger roots;
  • mint leaves, wormwood and many other herbs;
  • spices and honey.

The number of ingredients can reach up to 40. Each ingredient is infused and aged separately from the others, and then they are mixed.

It turns out a thick aromatic drink of dark brown color with a pronounced warming effect. Usually its strength is 40-45%. But there are also lighter (from 20%) species.
